It is the way to the ski slopes in winter and to the Bucegi trails in summer, straight from the town centre.
About the place
The cable car was built in 1970 and has two sections: Sinaia to Cota 1400, about 2.3 km long, and Cota 1400 to Cota 2000. The town hall bought it at auction in 2023, and the ski area's lifts are now run by Transport Urban Sinaia. Between Cota 1400 and Cota 2000 there is also the Carp gondola, with eight-seat cabins, opened in 2015.
In winter the ski area's runs start from Cota 1400 and Cota 2000, with 25 slopes and 11 lifts. In summer, trails between the town and Cota 1400 pass the Sfânta Ana hermitage and the Franz Josef rocks, and Cota 2000 sits at the edge of the Bucegi plateau. The Sinaia gondola, the second way up to Cota 1400, has been stopped since September 2026 after a pylon shifted; it has no reopening date.
Good to know
- On Tuesdays service starts at noon, and the lifts stop in strong wind; check the day's status on sinaiago.ro before going up.
- The cable car has a small capacity; on winter weekends come for the first run to avoid a long queue.
- Take warm clothes even on a warm day in town: at Cota 2000 it is much colder and windy.
